Mahogany is one of the most precious tropical hardwoods in the world. Its harvest is closely monitored and restricted, in an effort to protect the supply of trees from the threat of deforestation. Mahogany is prized for its beauty and durability, and used for instruments, fine furniture, and boat building. The color is almost pink at first, aging to a deep reddish-brown. The grain is smooth and straight, with only few knots, which allows for an incredibly silky finish.
